We had a great two days discussing Athletic Performance at our 5th Annual Interdisciplinary Integration Symposium! It was by far our largest group with over 115 attendees. A big thank you to all those who attended and the speakers who contributed to the integrative learning: Mike Arthur, Ken Crenshaw, Heidi Wise, John Cook, Dr. Kris Berg, Eric Cressey, Drew Marchesi, and Ron Hruska!

A few testimonials from course attendees:
“Thank you so much - always such a great course, really enjoyed the content - great mix of speakers, topics.”

“I was looking forward to the content and it exceeded my expectations. The only thing is that I wanted more!!”

“This was a wonderful integration of biomechanics with physiology to allow athletes and practitioners to communicate and breathe.”

In addition, we had several requests for the Sweet Crispix Chex Mix recipe, so HERE it is!

Pitman, NJ (Pelvis Restoration) - “Had a great time back at Endeavor Sports in New Jersey teaching Pelvis Restoration. Kevin Neeld is a great host and it is always great to see Strength and Conditioning Specialists hungry to learn more about PRI. I even got the opportunity to do some lifting after Saturdays course work! It was fun to have Athletic Trainers and Strength and Conditioning professionals from points north (Montreal, Canada) and south (Miami Dolphins )represented. PRI is not only for PT anymore!”  - Jen Poulin

Dallas, TX (Pelvis Restoration) - “This past weekend in Dallas was awesome.  It was a great weekend with passionate practitioners learning to integrate PRI into their practice.  We also had quite a few newbies that held their own.  I felt as a class they were enlightened with how powerful the respiratory and pelvic diaphragm work together.  The need for these two areas to work together is necessary for reciprocal alternating function such as gait to occur. We are ALL pelvic floor practitioners. Great weekend and a great class.  You guys rocked it! - Lori Thomsen

Lucy McKee, who is currently in one of her final physical therapy clinical rotations at the Hruska Clinic did a wonderful job of explaining how Postural Restoration is evidence based in our treatment approach with the A-B-A single subject experimental design in her recent blog. I couldn’t agree more with Lucy, and her patient case examples are great. CLICK HERE to read more about why testing and re-testing is so important in our assessment and treatment!

This week’s featured speaker for the 5th Annual Interdisciplinary Integration Symposium is Andrew Marchesi. Drew is a physical therapist at East Valley Spine & Sports Medicine Center in Chandler, Arizona. In addition to his interest and knowledge of Postural Restoration, Drew is a Fellow of Applied Functional Science through the Gray Institute and a Nike Golf Performance Specialist.

“I am excited for Drew to share how he integrates Postural Restoration concepts with his training in Applied Functional Science through the Gray Institute, as well as his experience as a Nike Golf Performance Specialist. Tri-planar activity must occur at many joints during the golf swing, and Drew will highlight considerations for evaluation, golf swing analysis and integrative treatment of the golfer. He will have us all prepared to treat those summer golf injuries!” -Ron Hruska

There is still seating available for the Symposium being held in Lincoln on April 11-12th. CLICK HERE to register!

Lucy McKee is a third year DPT student at A.T. Still University, and is currently doing a clinical rotation at the Hruska Clinic. She has been submitting weekly blog stories sharing her experiences during her clinical rotation. “Although I am still a novice in applying Postural Restoration® concepts and techniques, it is my hope that sharing some of the “ah-ha” moments that I experience during my internship will be helpful to other PRI therapists.” - Lucy

This week’s featured speaker for our 5th Annual Interdisciplinary Integration Symposium is Ken Crenshaw. A native of New Mexico, Crenshaw graduated from New Mexico State University with a degree in sports medicine and worked as an athletic trainer in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization for three years and as the strength and conditioning coordinator with the Atlanta Braves for four years before heading to Tampa Bay for 10 years. In December 2005, Crenshaw was named the Head Athletic Trainer for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

“After meeting Ken Crenshaw in 2008, at an educational course that I presented to his staff, he sent me an article written by Pavel Kolar, a mentor of his and mine. Since that time, he has sent me several articles and emails on everything from the diaphragm to neurology as it relates to stabilization and integrating function. He has so much experience and wisdom. What were we thinking when we scheduled him to speak for only 2 hours?” - Ron Hruska

I received the first Postural Restoration Certification (PRC) application for 2013 in the mail today, and I must say even I was a bit surprised to have one arrive so early! Although, PRC applications are not due until September 15th, it is never too early to begin working on the application process.

Postural Restoration Trained (PRT) applications are due on October 15th. If you too have begun working on your application during this wintery spring weather, and have any questions, please email me!
