Heather received a Bachelor of Science in Health Studies in 2000 and a Master of Science in Physical Therapy in 2002 from Boston University. After practicing for a few years she desired to further her education and clinical skills by receiving a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and Certification in Manual Therapy (MTC) from the University of St. Augustine (2008). That year she also became Board Certified as an Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS).
In 2011, after 9 years of working in orthopaedics in conjunction with serving as the primary PT for National Rehabilitation Hospital’s Stroke and Traumatic Brain Injury Day Treatment Program Heather decided to open up her own practice. The name of her practice, "One to One Physical Therapy," is highly indicative of the personalized nature of her services and is also a certified Postural Restoration Center.
In 2013 Heather took her first course, Postural Respiration, through the Postural Restoration Institute (PRI). Her professional life has never and will never be the same. As of October, 2016 she has taken 16 PRI courses and in 2015 became Postural Restoration Certified (PRC) through the Institute. Heather believes that PRI has given her the foundation she had previously been searching for as a Physical Therapist and can be applied to any health care practitioner model. She has always been a huge believer in learning and continuing to advance her knowledge and skills in her profession resulting in the development of a successful eclectic intuitive approach. However, PRI has provided her a strong comprehensive method and theoretical framework that has enabled her to integrate all of her prior training and skills together.
In 2015, Heather completed a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner certification program through the Nutritional Therapy Association (NTA) fueled by her strong belief in the importance of proper nutrition to holistically address her patients’ health and postural objectives. The approach of this program uses principles of balanced whole food nutrition while respecting bio-individuality. She has written nutrition based articles which may be accessed on her blog: http://heathercarrdpt.com
Heather enjoys working with a variety of different patient populations ranging from professional athletes to chronic pain conditions such as post-concussive syndrome and fibromyalgia. She is highly integrative in her approach and works closely with Dentists, Optometrists, Psychotherapists, and various other holistic minded practitioners to fully meet her patients’ needs and achieve their goals.
