Joe earned his BS in Physical Therapy from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1975. Joe also has a 30 year history in Martial Arts, and has studied Tae Kwon Do, T’ai Chi Ch’uan and Chi Gong. He integrates the non-traumatic movement principles from these disciplines into his therapeutic exercise programs.  Joe has studied and utilizes a multitude of specialized manual techniques including joint mobilization, Connective Tissue Massage, Myofascial Release, and Counterstrain, a release of tension patterns through positioning.  Joe began studying Postural Restoration in 2005.  He has attended basic and advanced classes in Postural Restoration since 2005, and became a Postural Restoration Certified therapist in 2008.  Joe has worked in various settings, including Lennox Baker Children’s Hospital, Duke University Medical Center, and Durham County General Hospital, MedVisit Inc., Interim Home Health Agency, and Carolina Handand Occupational Therapy. He joined Advance Physical Therapy in 2003.

History of Passion

The Postural Restoration Institute (PRI) is built around 30 years of clinical practice associated with recurring successes of specific patient treatment programs. We established reproducible, outcome-based programs based on consistent evidence-based correlations, discovered with patient biomechanical, respiratory, and neurological functional patterns and limitations. My passion for the integrated systems of the body has resulted in an examination and intervention process of the asymmetrical human body called Postural Restoration.
