Ron Hruska, Jason Masek and Gregory Parfianowicz will be traveling to Warsaw this September to present at the 1st International Congress of Polish Rehabilitation. This presentation follows Michal Niedzielski and Gregory Parfianowicz successful instruction of our Myokinematic Restoration course last year. We are excited about the continued expansion of Postural Restoration in Poland and the opportunity to educate internationally!

“The Congress will be held on September 10 – 13, 2009 at the University of Economics and Computer Science in Warsaw. The outstanding specialists in rehabilitation and physiotherapy, physicians dealing with these branches, researchers and students of rehabilitation and physiotherapy from academic centres worldwide will participate in the Congress. We expect around 1000 participants from Poland and other countries (it is worth mentioning that there are over 20,000 specialists in physiotherapy and rehabilitation in Poland). Apart from scientific sessions and the widely understood context of physiotherapy and rehabilitation, we are planning to organize Therapeutic Panel Meetings.” For more information, click here.

We often find articles published in the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies to be of interest. Last month was no exception. Consider reading the following from the July 2009 issue.

An investigation into the regulation of intra-cranial pressure and its influence upon the surrounding cranial bones.

Breathing evaluation and retraining in manual therapy.

Treatment of Beraud’s Vertebro-pericardial Fascia.

Look at all the asymmetry going on in this x-ray!  Notice the size difference in the obturator foramens, the asymmetry in the pelvic floor opening and the difference between the left and right head of the femurs.  This is a classic example of a Left AIC pelvis!

Michael Mullin, ATC, LAT, PTA from Portland, Maine recently sent us this helpful hint to use with our patients that enjoy running!

I just had a patient come back to see me and she stated:

“I just returned from Everest and it was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life.  There were times when I was having a really hard time breathing above 17,000 feet, and without oxygen, you are trying to find air.  There were others that needed to be evacuated, but I practiced the diaphragmatic things you taught me about full exhalation and re-oxygenation and I swear it saved me—literally saved my life when I did not think I was going to make it”.

I have been having my runners work on a breathing cycle with quite good results:  inhaling on 2 strides and exhaling on 3 strides.  This reinforces not only good respiratory control and reducing hyperinflation, but it also allows them to push off on exhalation on alternating legs to maintain symmetry.

Hi Bobbie/Ron,
I would like to thank you both for the opportunity to see Ron treat my patient in Lincoln yesterday via Skype. Here I was in NC, and it was almost as good as being there ! I learned a lot and think this is an excellent tool for any clinician who wants to consult from wherever they are. The patient could also be in your clinic anywhere on this planet and Ron in Lincoln can see the patient from there. I hope everyone takes advantage of this great learning opportunity, I certainly plan to continue to do so.  - Sangini
